Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll (nacida en Barranquilla, 2 de febrero de 1977), mejor conocida como Shakira, es una cantautora, productora discográfica, bailarina, modelo, diseñadora de moda, empresaria, actriz de televisión, música, filántropa yembajadora de buena voluntad de la UNICEF colombiana. Debutó en el mercado discográfico hispanoamericano en 1996 con el álbum Pies descalzos y el éxito internacional le llegó en el2001 con Laundry Service. Es la artista femenina internacional con más ventas en la década del 2000. Además, es la única artista en tener cuatro sencillos («Hips Don't Lie», «Whenever, Wherever», «Underneath Your Clothes» y «La tortura», en las posiciones #1, #17, #18, y #19, respectivamente) en la lista de los veinte sencillos más vendidos de la pasada década (2000-2009), siendo «Hips Don't Lie» el sencillo más vendido de los cuatro, colocándose entre los primeros 40 en la historia de la música. A fecha de 2013, ha ganado dos Premios Grammy y diez Premios Grammy Latino. La empresa Live Nation considera a Shakira la artista más importante de su generación por su impacto global claramente consolidado y la ubica con este contrato como uno de los artistas más importantes del mundo.
